SARDINIA: THE LITTLE TRAIN OF TREXENTA
With a book exploring the historical railroad crossing the picturesque district in the hinterland of Cagliari. Along the way, the pleasures of a land full of local products.
As the English writer D.H. Lawrence in 1921, we'll look through the windows of the Green Train a portion of Sardinia, Trexenta, with its natural, archaeological and historical beauties. And you will also taste its culinary excellence.
Trexenta is a historical region of Sardinia, located in the northern part of the province of Cagliari and about 40 km from the capital of Sardinia, where the plains of Campidano meets the first hills in a succession of green countryside with orchards, vineyards, olive groves and grain fields.
The starting point is the station of Montserrato, near Cagliari, and the trip is a ride through the historical railroad of Sardinia discovering the countries of Senorbì, Suelli, Gesico and Mandas, which represent the ancient roots and the wealth of this land.
ITinerando in Trexenta
This area was born in prehistoric times, to continue in the Punic and Roman periods when it became an important granary.
Senorbì is the main center of Trexenta and was already inhabited in the prenuragic period, as evidenced by the discovery of the famous “Mater Mediterranea”, a small statue of the third millennium BC.
The town is also important for the presence of the Punic Necropolis of “Monte Luna”, whose numerous archaeological findings are guarded in the Museum of the town "Sa Domu Nosta".
The town is also the birthplace of Giuseppe Antonio Lonis, the most important exponent of the wood sculpture in the Island.
Among the areas of archaeological interest in the territory is noted the emblem of Nuragic civilization in Trexenta: the “Nuraghe Piscu” of Suelli.
Numerous works of art are present in the area of Trexenta: in the Roman Cathedral of St. Peter in Suelli you can admire the important “Retablo di San Pietro”, moreover the churches of Suelli are full of treasures: works of art of great value, the mysterious sanctuary of “San Giorgio Vescovo”, and the typical manor houses where the past is mixed with the present.
Gesico is a small village on the slopes of “Monte San Mauro”, wich offers a unique culinary event with the “Sagra della Lumaca” where you can taste different dishes based of snail, including the "Fregula cun Sitzigorrus". It is no coincidence, in fact, that Gesico is part of the club of "Twelve Italian city of snails" to illustrate their importance at national level.
The last stage of our trip is Mandas. "This village is a railway station where little trains stops for a nice and long talk after the hard climbing hills." As David Herbert Lawrence, in 1921, wrote in his book "Sea and Sardinia", arriving to the station of Mandas, a country which, to the English writer, provoked emotions and suggestions.
"Life in Sardinia is maybe the best that a man can hope: twenty-four thousand kilometers of forests, countryside, coasts immersed in a miraculous sea... should coincide with what I recommend to God to give us as paradise"

History and flavors of the ancient Flaminia
A fascinating trail, rich of history and flavors on the Via Flaminia, the road connecting Rome to the Adriatic coast. Passed the "Passo della Scheggia" in the Apennines, the ancient consular way makes its entry in the Marche region in which are still visible today with the exceptional importance of the archaeological remains great Roman civilization. We propose an itinerary that combines the history of these beautiful lands to the typical local tradition.
Fano, Fanum Fortuae in Roman times, was the first stop on the ancient consular road along the Adriatic coast coming from Rome, with a rich history of the Augustan age. One of the most delicious recipes of the Marche Riviera which draws from the galley of the fishermen is the Brodetto or "Brudet", typical fish soup of the cuisine of Fano.
The dish is various and depends on the daily catch: the tradition is to use fresh fish with plug, cooked with tomato paste (as fishermen on the boats did not have the fresh tomato) and wine vinegar that gives to the dish a particular fragrance. Serve hot, accompanied with bread dipped in the sauce.

The Marche region has always enjoyed an enviable reputation for what concerns its plant more valuable: the olive tree. The local varieties differ from area to area, but very renowned for its intense flavor is the extra virgin olive oil Cartoceto, a country that lies on the rolling hills of the lower valley of the Metauro (PU), awarded with the DOP.
Italy is one of the world's largest producers of truffles. Acqualagna, inland town of Pesaro, has a centuries-old tradition in the production of truffles, especially white truffle, the most valuable among species of truffle, and this has been renamed "the capital of the Truffle".
Along the Via Flaminia from Fossombrone to Acqualagna we will encounter in the impressive and majestic State Natural Reserve of the "Gola del Furlo".
